LCR Dallas Welcomes Dallas County DA: Faith Johnson

February's Log Cabin-Dallas meeting features our new D.A, Faith Johnson! We are excited to hear Ms Johnson's update on County news, her take on politics today, and how it all affects the LGBT community.

Ms. Johnson's experience is quite impressive; she is a pioneer, with a series of "first" on her resume: the first African-American female appointed to serve as District Attorney of Dallas County, as well as for District Criminal Judge, where she presided for 17 years. She has handled thousands of felony cases ranging from drug possession to theft to sexual assault, child abuse and capital murder. She practiced with a non-profit law firm for two years before establishing Faith Johnson & Associates, LLP in 2009.

Ms. Johnson belongs to the US Christian Chamber of Commerce, is Secretary and Board member of The Potter's House, and a past Board member of several non-profit organizations. In 2009, Ms. Johnson was appointed by Gov Rick Perry to the Texas Public Safety Commission, where she was one of 5 Commissioners overseeing homeland security, border patrol & terrorism in Texas. She served there through 2016.

Ms Johnson received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's in Community Counseling from Georgia State University, and a law degree from Texas Southern University. Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, she is the youngest of 13 children born to Benjamin and Eva Simmons.

RSVP today! Our meeting is a dinner-speaker format, with "cocktail 1/2 hour" at 6:30, and seating at 7. We look forward to seeing you there!
